About Us
Founded by the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady in 1949 Our Lady of Lourdes is a newly constructed 192bed hospital located in Lafayette Louisiana Lourdes is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System which is the largest locallyowned notforprofit health system in Louisiana As such our hospital has access to a great many resources helping us to fulfill our mission of extending the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to Gods people

Lourdes employs more than 1200 people in addition to offering a staff of over 400 active physicians in a variety of medical and surgical specialties We are the local healthcare leader providing a wideranging network of facilities and services In addition to our medical center we have a campus on Kaliste Saloom Road Heart Hospital of Lafayette dedicated to providing the most outstanding cardiac care in the region We also offer a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence and Neuromedical Services that feature a Stroke Center of Excellence as well as one of the top orthopedic programs in the nation Lourdes also provides the only burn unit in Southwest Louisiana in addition to the areas first cancer network With additional services including multiple clinics four imaging locations and a primary care physician network Lourdes provides easy access to comprehensive care throughout the community

After more than 60 years of providing the highest level of healthcare to the people of Acadiana we are also pleased to announce the opening of our brand new hospital on Saturday June 25 2011 Encompassing 45 acres and an investment of 211 million this new medical center is the largest building project in the history of Lafayette and reaffirms our commitment to providing more and better access to healthcare for the people we serve

History
Although founded in 1949 Our Lady of Lourdes traces its roots to 1911 when Mother Marie de Bethanie Crowley of Our Lady and five Franciscan Missionaries made a voyage to America to further their Orders mission of serving the sick and needy The missionaries founded St Francis Medical Center in Monroe Louisiana in 1913 then founded Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge in 1923

Our Lady of Lourdes was founded largely through the efforts of Monsignor AF Isenberg who was a priest from the Diocese of Lafayette After being injured in a car accident in 1945 he received care at Our Lady of the Lake and he subsequently persuaded the Franciscan Missionaries to continue their ministry by opening a hospital in Lafayette

Lourdes opened its doors on August 1 1949 as a modest 50bed hospital Throughout its more than 60year history Lourdes has undergone many physical changes and grown to become the healthcare leader in Acadiana dedicated to comprehensive care and medical excellence through its healing ministry

In 2011 the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady are celebrating the 100th year of their mission in North America As such it is fitting that Our Lady of Lourdes will also be opening its new stateoftheart hospital in Lafayette this year where the history and tradition of our healing ministry will continue well into the future
