Norfolk Regional Center
The Norfolk Regional Center was created by an act of the Nebraska Legislature in 1885 The Norfolk Regional Center is a progressive 120bed state psychiatric hospital providing specialized psychiatric care to adults It is part of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services DHHS

The center works closely with the Lincoln Regional Center and other agencies to provide Adult Psychiatric and Phase One Sex Offender services The Norfolk and Lincoln Regional Centers operate a combined sex offender treatment program Phase One of sex offender treatment is done at Norfolk Regional Center and Phase Two and Phase Three for sex offender treatment is done at Lincoln Regional Center

Legislation enacted in 2006 expanded the need for sex offender services provided by DHHS Specialized programs currently include inpatient psychiatric hospitalization limited psychiatric outpatient treatment and phase one of the sex offender treatment Program components may involve intensive psychological skillbuilding classes and individual group and family therapy as well as occupational and recreational therapy

addition the regional center utilizes the professional skills of psychiatrists psychologists social workers registered nurses occupational and recreational therapists registered dietitians substance abuse counselors pharmacists dieticians dentist physician assistants and other health professionals

The regional center provides clinical educational experiences for a variety of health care professionals The Northeast Community College and Central Community College Columbus Campus nursing programs use the regional center for clinical experience for nursing students in their RN programs Wayne State College uses the regional center for clinical training for students in the Masters Counseling program The regional center operates a predoctoral clinical psychology oneyear internship program Three interns are selected annually from graduate programs across the country This is one of the longest standing psychology internship programs in the nation It was started in 1954 and has been continuously accredited by the American Psychology Association since 1956 The regional center has also provides clinical training for social worker students physician assistants physicians and pharmacy students periodically
