About Us
Medcenter One is a nonprofit integrated health system that consists of a 232bed hospital a multispecialty clinic a college of nursing six primary care clinics three kidney dialysis centers and four longterm care facilities in western and central North Dakota Key accreditations and quality awards include Joint Commission American College of Surgeons Level II Emergency and Trauma Center Magnet Recognition Programreg and 100 Top Hospitalsreg for cardiovascular care by Thomson Reuters in 2009

Medcenter One Chronicle

1902 Quain amp Ramstad Clinic was founded by Drs Eric P Quain and Niles 0 Ramstad

1907 Dr Ramstad asks the annual conference of the Evangelical Church to consider construction of a hospital in Bismarck With the assistance of Rev WC Menges missionary of the Bismarck Evangelical Association a
hospital association is formed

1908 Bismarck Evangelical Hospital is the first hospital in western North Dakota to have an Xray machine

1909 The first unit of Bismarck Evangelical Hospital a threestory brick building with a bed capacity of 60 is officially opened for patients
Bismarck Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing is established

1912 Bismarck Evangelical Hospital is the first hospital in the state to use novocaine for anesthesiaBismarck Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing graduates its first class

1913 The constant growth of Bismarck as a medical center for all the western territory necessitates construction of an addition Three stories are built to match the original building

1914 Bismarck Evangelical Hospital is the first hospital in North Dakota to have a certified pathologist

1917 A fourstory addition is added and includes the Bismarck Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing dining room and dietary department

1919 Bismarck Evangelical Hospital is the first hospital in North Dakota to have radium available for treatment of cancerFirst steam autoclave used to sterilize surgical instruments and surplus at the Bismarck Evangelical Hospital

1951 A 52bed addition is completed and opened for occupancy

1955 The Evangelical Church donates the facility to the community to be operated by a volunteer Board of TrusteesThe name of the hospital is changed to Bismarck Hospital

1959 Bismarck Hospital is the only hospital between Minneapolis Minn and Seattle Wash to have a Cobalt Therapy Unit
