History of the Malvern Institute
Malvern Institute was originally founded as the C Dudley Saul clinic in 1946 by Doctor C Nelson Davis and Dr C Dudley Saul for the purpose of treating individuals suffering from alcoholism and psychiatric conditions Dr Saul restricted his efforts to alcoholism while Dr Davis was concerned with larger problem of quothuman behaviorquot In 1948 the clinic became incorporated as a nonprofit corporation known as the C Dudley Saul Research Foundation Inc and was located at the St Lukes Hospital at 8th and Thompson Streets in Philadelphia Pennsylvania It later moved to 133 South 36th Street in Philadelphia Pennsylvania The Foundation relocated again this time to its current location in Malvern Pennsylvania in scenic Chester County and became chartered as the Malvern Institute For Psychiatric and Alcohol Studies in 1949 To accommodate an everincreasing need an addition was built in the 1980s almost doubling the treatment space at Malvern Institute The property has been recently remodeled including the main lobby several patient rooms kitchen dining room common areas and exterior both paint and landscaping

Under new management since July 2008 Malvern Institutes transformation is beyond the physical We now offer a comprehensive 30 day inpatient program as part of a complete Continuum of Care Specific topics are covered including relapse prevention coping skills relationships
