History

HISTORY
On Monday May 15 1950 Loris Community Hospital opened its doors for patients A result of communities working together the hospital was built originally to serve the Township Communities of Bayboro Green Sea and Simpson Creek which includes the town of Loris

Originally a 23bed hospital a fourbed ward was added soon after opening The hospital continued to grow as community health needs increased and trends changed Over the years additions and renovations of numerous areas resulted in our current licensed capacity of 105 beds and available services Loris Extended Care Center a 40bed skilled nursing facility was the first nonhospital addition of what is now known as Loris Healthcare System

In the 1990s there began a period of tremendous growth the construction of a new 88bed longterm care facility to replace the old Extended Care Center Family Health Centers and construction of the Center for Health amp Fitness

In 1996 the name Loris Healthcare System was introduced to more accurately reflect the complete network of services provided to communities we serve

Continuing with its mission to provide quality services Loris Healthcare System also opened Seacoast Medical Center in October 2000 This 24hour emergency and sameday surgery facility located in Little River makes health services more accessible to the communities of Longs Little River North Myrtle Beach and Calabash Seacoast Medical Center exemplifies the commitment Loris Healthcare System has to improving the health wellness and overall quality of life for the citizens in our communities
