History

History
1841 La Porte Medical College is formed by Dr Jacob Andrew Dr Franklin Hunt Dr GA Rose and Dr Daniel Meeker

1846La Porte Medical College changes its name to Indiana Medical College

1851Indiana Medical College is consolidated with Indiana Central Medical College a department of Asbury University which later became DePauw University at Greencastle Indiana

1900 Five Sisters of the Order of Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ start Holy Family Hospital

1914 Holy Family Hospital builds a new brick facility

1924The La Porte County Protestant Association is established to support and manage an institution that will offer medical and surgical aid and nursing to sick and disabled persons of every creed nationality and color

1925A new addition is completed giving Holy Family Hospital space for a total of 90 beds

1926 1927 The La Porte County Protestant Association purchases a building on Pine Lake Avenue and opens it as Fairview Hospital with the capacity to care for 33 patients

1943Fairview Hospital completes construction on a new 71bed facility

1960 Fairview Hospital changes its name to Community Hospital

1966A joint resolution is adopted for the merger of Holy Family and Community Hospitals with the assets direction and control of the two entities managed by La Porte Hospital Inc

1967AllisChalmers Manufacturing Company donates 644 acres in downtown Laamp65533amp65533Porte for the site of a new hospital

1969400 people gather for the groundbreaking ceremonies for the new facility

1972La Porte Hospital opens a 213bed all privateroom facility the first hospital in the country to offer all private rooms

1978The Health Care Foundation of Greater La Porte is formed later known as the Laamp65533amp65533Porte Hospital Foundation

1983 La Porte Hospitals new parent organization Lakeland Health Corporation is formed

1983Dedication ceremonies are held for the hospitals South Pavilion addition

1989 The La Porte area welcomes the opening of Heritage Place a new Laamp65533amp65533Porte Hospital medical and office complex

1993La Porte Hospital Community Health Center opens offering health care to the indigent population

1996La Porte Hospital becomes the first hospital in the country to use automated fingerprint technology to register patients

1996Hospital officials announce plans for a threeyear 16 million renovation of the hospital

1997La Porte Hospital officials announce the upcoming affiliation with Clarian Health Partners

1998La Porte Hospital is officially integrated with Clarian Health Partners

1998La Porte Regional Health System is formed to manage the operation and coordination of La Porte Hospital and Health Services La Porte Regional Physician Network and the La Porte Hospital Foundation

1998Washington Street Center is completed offering magnetic resonance imaging MRI and comprehensive radiation oncology services

1998Dedication ceremonies are held for the La Porte Hospital Family Chapel

1999La Porte Hospital and Health Services named one of the nations Top 50 Hospitals in Geriatrics by US News and World Report

1999La Porte Hospital amp Health Services and St Anthony Memorial Health Centers partner to create the La Porte County Dental Services to serve lowincome families

1999 La Porte Hospital amp Health Services opens the Center for Cancer Therapy

1999Leigh E Morris retires after serving 21 years as president of La Porte Hospital

1999Jonathan R Goble is appointed new CEO and president of La Porte Regional Health System

2000The Celebration of a Century La Porte Hospital and Health Services commemorates 100 Year Celebration of Healthcare in La Porte during Hospital Week

2000Members of La Porte Professional Building Partnership donate medical and professional office building located at 1300 State Street The building officially renamed as The Legacy Building has a history that dates back to 1868 when it was built by the La Porte Sash and Door Company Four years later after a devastating fire swept through the building August Backhaus and Louis Schumm rebuilt the structure The last venture established there before the partnership purchased the building was Universal Woodcrafters which went out of business in the early 1970s
