History

Our History
The history of Archbold Medical Center begins with its anchor facility John D Archbold Memorial Hospital The hospital was given as a gift to the Thomasville and south Georgianorth Florida community by John F Archbold in memory of his father John D Dustin Archbold The hospital was originally to be built on the banks of the Hudson River in New York City but at the urging of his friends from Thomasville Mr Archbold built the facility in his winter hometown of Thomasville A significant item of interest is that the original structure which was dedicated on June 30 1925 continues to be the main core of the present facility It is almost unheard of for a hospital of this age to continue to be used as a modern healthcare facility

Numerous changes renovations and additions however have taken place on the main structure through the years and it is most fortunate that the original design of the hospital was such that professional and service areas have allowed for economical expansion since it opened It was through the great foresight of John F Archbold and through past and present members of the Board of Trustees medical staff and administration that progressive decisions have been made allowing the original structure to be expanded in all directions
