Description

To ensure that there are proper secondary care facilities for the beneficiaries the ESIC decided to set up one Model Hospital in each State ESI Hospital Ludhiana was identified out of the existing Hospitals in the states to provide all modern infrastructure facilities staff and equipments as per ESI norms and to act as referral hospital for the entire State to provide state of art secondary care servicesIt was taken over by ESIC New Delhi wef November 1 2002 and renamed as ESIC Model Hospital Ludhiana with the same concept

The hospital is situated at the junction of a major road and an ancillary roadThe total site is about 105 acre Within this site there are 6 existing dispensaries ESI dispensary No 1 4 6 7 8 and 11 and a total of 90 staff quarters of different categories An extension of this hospital was constructed in late nineties with a provision to increase the bed strength from 100 to 262 but was pending commission New hospital building was partially commissioned by Dr Hardial Singh who took over the charge as the first Medical Superintendent of the hospital since its inception Subsequently present Medical Superintendent who took over the charge from Dr Hardial Singh on 27 June 2005 was able to get the official sanction for 262 bedded hospital from ESIC Headquarters New Delhi vide there letter No U16181ESICChinchwad2003Med IV dt 10106 However the Director General vide letter No U1625MHLDH02PbMIV V dated November 2006 released the posts on the basis of average occupancy rate of 125 beds which are given on staff position


History

ESI Hospital Ludhiana was a multispecialty 100bedded hospital It was commissioned in 1968 The hospital building consisted of a female general ward male general ward TB ward operation theatre Xray room Laboratory and Labor room besides OPD rooms Administration dispensing etc Almost all the major specialties existed in this hospital viz Medicine Surgery Gynae amp Obstetrics Pediatrics Orthopedics Dental Eye ENT Laboratory Xray Anesthesia Emergency and Family Welfare

Two main categories of doctors were posted viz Senior Medical Officers post graduates and Medical officers may or may not be a post graduate except medical officers posted in Post partum unit post graduate in pediatrics 1 and gynae1

It may be noticed that the basic qualification of the Medical Officer posted in hospital is MBBS Medical Officers were not posted speciality wise except in Post Partum Unit

The objective of the hospital was to give curativespecialistemergency and preventive treatment Free supply of drugs and dressings Imaging and Laboratory services Family Welfare and immunization services along with Ambulance services etc to the IPs Patients who cannot be treated in this hospital were referred to Rajindra Hospital Patiala or PGI Chandigarh
