Dr Lydia Colaco BA MD DGO FRCS MRCOG started the COLACO HOSPITAL a unit of ICMCH Trust in the year 1955 She was South Indias highest qualified lady medical practitioner The Hospital is the first private hospital of Mangalore In her career spanning 50 years she conducted more than 25000 child deliveries most of which were challenging Her dedication talent and fame spread across the Konkan and Malabar Coast In her twilight years she donated the Hospital complex to the Isidore Colaco Memorial Charitable Hospital Trust The hospital now boasts of a 250 bedded state of the art multi speciality unit with a built up area of 40000 sqft spread over 22000 sqft of land on Bendore Main Road in the heart of the city The main objective of the trust is to extend health services to the maximum number of people at the most reasonable rates and to spread education with special emphasis on the girl child
