People all over the Saanich Peninsula care about the health care available to them close to their homes Each year thousands in our community contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars to ensure that the Saanich Peninsula Hospital has the newest and best equipment

The Saanich Peninsula Hospital is one that offers tremendous personal care delivered by devoted and compassionate staff One in eight adults on the peninsula opened their chequebooks to give the Foundation a tangible vote of confidence by contributing to our campaigns to build and equip a new Emergency Room

About Us
Saanich Peninsula Hospital SPH is a community hospital serving approximately 30000 households on the Saanich Peninsula area of Vancouver Island The hospital was built in 1974 as an Extended Care facility and has grown to become a full service hospital with 48 acute care beds and 144 extended care beds The hospital was amalgamated into the Capital Health Region of Greater Victoria in 1997 and into the Vancouver Island Health Authority in 2002

History

In 1985 a group of concerned citizens came together to raise funds for equipment at the young Saanich Peninsula Hospital

These caring and compassionate members of our community created an independent registered charity BN 11913 0540 RR0001 and have worked tirelessly Successive hardworking boards have raised more than 20 million since 1985

Some of their more notable achievements include

Outfitting a second operating room for the hospital at a cost of 9715900
Overseeing the design and creation of a therapeutic garden at a cost of 18222600 This has become an integral part of the hospitals Extended Care Unit and is enjoyed by its elderly residents every day Purchasing a patient monitoring system for the Emergency Department that provides information at a glance on patients in curtained examination areas Staff in other areas of the hospital can also access information the monitor has collected during the patients stay in Emergency Cost of this equipment was 11710500 Overseeing the design and building of two Palliative Care Rooms for the Extended Care Unit These rooms have made the end of life more comfortable for patients and their families as they contain kitchen facilities chairs that convert to single beds The first room undertaken also has patio doors that lead to a small garden The second was created in partnership with the Auxiliary to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Cost of these projects was 50000Providing 393157 to renovate the hospitals Palliative Care Unit This project created 10 private homelike rooms for patients amp families The Foundation has also undertaken planning for a therapeutic garden area for the Unit Purchasing electric beds which make patients more comfortable and ease the workload for nursing staff Purchasing specialty wheelchairs and other pieces of equipment that increase mobility for patients and reduce strain for staff Spearheading the design and construction of a new Emergency Room The new ER cost 23 million plus 500000 for new equipment Of those project costs the Foundation provided 19 million

Raising 350000 to replace aging cardiac monitors for the Acute Care Unit
Raising 1 million to purchase a new CT Scanner for the hospital A Board member recently expressed his feelings most eloquently
