Description

The North Eastman Health Association Inc is responsible for the provision of health services and programs to meet the needs of the people of the North Eastman region NEHA is committed to building partnerships and empowering individuals and communities to become active participants in the process The ongoing Community Health Assessment will provide a critical element of consumer participation which will guide the evidencebased decision making and evaluation process

The North Eastman region geography covers an area of approximately 35000 square kilometers While the southerly part of the region is primarily an agricultural area the remainder of North Eastman is set amidst the boreal forest and is interspersed with a multitude of waterways in which are nestled several resort communities The northerly areas are very remote and accessible via a winter road system and by air

The population of the region in accordance with Manitoba Health figures as of March 20 1996 is 38093 This represents approximately 3 of the total population of Manitoba The population of the region increased by 89 in the 6year period between 1990 and 1996 The region also has significant seasonal population growth during the summer months as the Whiteshell Winnipeg River and eastern beach areas become home to cottagers and a haven for tourists It has been estimated that the regional population increases by 75000 during the summer

What is a Primary Health Care Centre

A Primary Health Care Centre provides access for a wide range of community services Primary Health Care Centres are a relatively new concept in Manitoba The centre provides quotonestop shoppingquot for health care services for the residents of the area including physician clinic services laboratory services and nurserun clinics with an emphasis on health promotion and illness prevention in addition to the treatment of acute and chronic illnesses Public health mental health clinical dietitian home care social work and diabetes education services are also offered at Kin Place Primary Health Care Centre These are communitybased services that have been in place for some time and will continue to be offered to the community

Primary health care also focuses on the health of the population This means that the health care professionals at Kin Place Primary Health Care Centre are looking to maintain and improve the health of the entire population of Springfield and area The health programs developed by the Primary Health Care Centre will be based on priority health needs as identified by the community Community consultations will be held in the development of programs

The North Eastman Health Association Inc along with Manitoba Health is focusing on Primary Health Care as a means to improve the health status of the residents of the North Eastman Region
